“Drug War” Not Working

October 30, 2008 | | 5 Comments

“DRUG WAR” NOT WORKING: They say they NEED to “keep it up” because without it, we’d be “overrun” with drugs. We are NOW! The number of people abusing drugs today EXCEEDS the number using them when “the drug war” started. So how is it “working?” If users could buy their drugs at a drug store at a REASONABLE price (prices and quality controlled by the government), drug dealers who charge high prices would go out of business because nobody would buy them. They would stop “pushing” drugs onto even school children because the profit would be gone. Soon, the desire to use drugs because it is “forbidden” would be gone, and the number of abusers would go down.  . . .  OBAMA SAYS HE’S NOT GOING TO RAISE TAXES: But he has PROMISED to “let Bush’s tax cuts expire.” What is THAT but a tax increase? It causes you to pay more in taxes. It just doesn’t require congressional action.  . . .  OBAMA COMPARES US TO NAZIS: He says “during WWII, we were ‘uncomfortably like Nazis’ Where did he get this drivel but from Rev. Wright?  . . .  BUYING VOTES: It’s illegal to hand a person money to buy his vote, but apparently it’s not illegal to buy their votes by promising to give them money if you’re elected. Obama says every taxpayer will get $1,000 if he’s elected, while McCain is only promising $150. Of course, Obama is going to tax you THOUSANDS more after giving you a pittance.  . . .   “MY BROTHER’S KEEPER”: That’s what Obama said in his acceptance speech in Denver. But apparently it doesn’t apply to a half-brother in Kenya (who lives in a hut on one dollar a day) and his aunt, who lives in a slum in Boston and has been told to “keep her mouth shut until after the election.” What he actually means is not that HE is “his brother’s keeper,” but that he wants to make YOU his brother’s keeper with YOUR money, not his.  . . .   TANSTAAFL: that means “There ain’t no such thing as a free lunch” and came from Robert Heinlein’s great book, “The Moon is a Harsh Mistress.” What it means is that even if you get something for free, SOMEBODY has to pay for it. Democrats don’t agree with that. They’re not smart enough.

I agree and I was directly involved in the Great War on Drugs. I gave some of the best years of my life to it. It will take its place in History as the Second Prohibition.

Legalize it, tax it, and get over it.

Now about all this tax talk. What is better for all of us to pay tax on our health care benefits, or big corporations paying their share? At the moment with all the tax breaks they are not. If there is a better way to pay off this debt somebody should get it out there!

Can Handle: You’re right, and I’d bet that most people who “fought” that war agree with you in their “heart of hearts.” Yes, McCain IS going to stop health benefits being exempt from taxes. But I’d bet that tax won’t equal the $5,000 he’s going to give them to pay it with. “The government taketh, and the government giveth it back.” If the politicians (Democrats mostly, but some Republicans, too) would quit spending more than they take in, maybe we could pay off this debt. I’m really tired of hearing them throw out “billion dollars for this and billion dollars for that” to bail out bad business decisions and stick their governmental noses in private business. They spend money like it wasn’t theirs! Oh, wait: it ISN’T.

Finally, somebody that recognizes that we have to pay off that debt!

Can: TANSTAAFL. (There ain’t no such thing as a free lunch). Everything has a price thet SOMEBODY has to pay, even if it isn’t always visible.
